My Life in the Theatre

Back to LA from London, Germany and Venice!

by Elizabeth Huffman on 12/13/12

Just a quick update for you! It was a whirlwind month in London, ( saw tons of great theatre and friends) and the performances in Hanau and Eisenach of Absence of Wanting went well. Steven and I are back in the workshop stage again, having learned much of what worked and what still needs work. Many more changes to the script ahead and we hope to premier a very new version sometime next year in Portland.
I am in LA doing my decorating work...I have done makeovers for four clients while here and will be working on a personal makeover in the new year. Due back in Portland to work on a new play The Invisible Hand at ART and who knows what else is coming down the path for 2013! I wish you all a happy, safe and love filled holiday and new year ahead!

The Absence of Wanting....the new title of the play!

by Elizabeth Huffman on 08/27/12

Hey Everyone!
As you will have noticed we have changed the title of the play from You Belong to Me to The Absence of Wanting. We are so excited about the change and the many new revisions in the script that have deepened and in some cases, completely changed the direction of the play!
Working on a new piece is always so challenging and I have been blessed by the participation of not just one, but two brilliant directors, Jane Bement Geesman and Debra Deliso, not to mention the astounding talent of Sharath Patel whose sound design is an integral part of this play. Steven Wolfson has written a timelessly beautiful story and I am so honored to perform this inspiring and profound new work.
We are working hard now to get it ready for the preview in LA before taking it to Eruope. If you are in town, please come and see it. I need an audience to play with!
See you at the Lounge Theatre in Hollywood on Sept 9 & 10!
xoxo

Play title is changing, play revised and performances in LA!

by Elizabeth Huffman on 08/21/12

Wow, this has been a whirlwind here in LA with rehearsals heating up for my play. The whole thing has been revised, two new characters and we are changing the title but we do not have it yet!! The play's central themes have deepened since we began You Belong to Me and we are not convinced now that this is the best title for the show...so I will perform it here in LA as Untitled, formerly known as You Belong to Me! In Europe hopefully, I will have a new title!

I am so excited about these changes and I think the play is really beautiful. Steven has worked so hard and now Debra, who has taken over directing from Jane, is adding her own beautiful ideas, Sharath is composing all new music for Aspasia and it is pretty dang awesome.

I will be performing it in LA at The Lounge Theatre...(see the You Belong to me Page for info) on Sunday Sept 9 at 2pm and Monday, Sept 10 at 8. Don't miss it if you are in LA! I am eager to put this in front of people!

Gotta run and learn all of those new lines!
See you all soon!
xoxo

You Belong to Me rehearses in Los Angeles before heading to Germany in Sept!

by Elizabeth Huffman on 08/08/12

Here I am back in LA, where it is nice and hot,  about to begin another set of rehearsals for my thrilling new one woman show, You Belong to Me, being written for me by LA playwright, Steven Wolfson.
After a very successful work in progress run at two theatres in Portland, Steven is making some important changes to the script: There are two new characters coming in, including Pericles of Athens! Another radical change in the play is in story line of one of the two main characters, Aspasia. She was an incredibly progressive and utterly fascinating woman from 5th century Athens, and audiences in Portland wanted to see more of her so they soon will! Many other changes are happening with The Actress, the other main character, along with a gorgeous new sound design by the ever brilliant Sharath Patel.
Jane Bement Geesman, my beloved Portland director, will now turn over the directing reigns to Debra Deliso, another terrific director and a longtime friend, here in LA, while Jane continues to advise by Skype, between rehearsals for her next play!
We will present the new staging for  a few performances in Los Angeles, location and dates still to be determined, before heading to Hanau Germany to perform at the Theatertage Festival on Sept 28 followed by a performance at the National Theatre at Eisenach on Oct 3..... where I will also teach a series of Shakespeare workshops there! There may be additional performances in Europe so stay tuned! I am so blessed to have such an exciting new work being created for me and have many people who have supported me via Kickstarter, and who eagerly await the final results when we mount the full production soon. More details to come! Meanwhile, I have a ton of new lines to learn not to mention two new characters to bring to life!
See you all soon!
