MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR
By William Shakespeare
Lee Strasberg Theatre

PRODUCTION NOTES

The Merry Wives of Windsor was set in Windsor, Kentucky in 1955. The play opened at a town picnic with games of chance, pie eating contests, beauty contest (judged of course by Falstaff the beloved rascal of several plays by the bard) along with live Appalachian banjo music. Shakespeare's only domestic comedy is stylistically suited to the twang and brash of the deep south and the relative innocence of the 1950's. A small town where everyone knows each other and meets at the local beauty salon, barber shops and of course the local bar to trade gossip and plot revenge on Sir John Falstaff for attempting to court two married best friends, who will put him through hell before they are satisfied that he has learned his lesson.
